Skincare Favorites

Like many people during the pandemic, I turned to developing routines and habits to try to improve my life a little. One of those areas was definitely skincare. I started following beauty and skincare influencers on Instagram and TikTok and getting an idea of what a good skincare routine for my combination skin type would be.

I have definitely had some trials and errors here. Trying to find a reasonably priced regiment, trying to find something that didn’t irritate my skin, trying to find something that actually addressed my problem areas (redness, dryness, dark circles, etc). And while I do think there are some products that are totally worth spending a bit more on, I think you can find a lot of really good products at Target and CVS without breaking the bank.

So I tried to pull together some products that I am personally using in my daily skincare routine that are currently working for me. One thing to remember is that not all skincare products are going to be effective forever. I’ve learned to adapt to what my skin needs and change it up when I start to notice that something is no longer serving me. Honestly, that is a philosophy to carry into many other areas of life outside of just skincare.

There’s definitely some brand consistency here but what I noticed in my skincare journey was that when I found something I really loved from a brand, I wanted to try out other things and see if they were just as good. I love the Ordinary for so many reasons. Number one: they are super affordable. The serums are really hydrating and make my skin feel amazing. I have used the hyaluronic acid and the Buffet peptide serum pretty consistently but I also love the niacinamide serum, the peeling solution, and the caffeine solution.

Another brand I’ve found to really like is Versed. This one can be found on Amazon but also Target. The toners and brightening solutions are awesome and leave my skin feeling like a clean palette for moisturizers and makeup. I also absolutely love the gel-cream moisturizer because it doesn’t make my skin feel greasy and gives me hydration all day long. Now that I’m pregnant, I’m not supposed to use the Retinol serum but pre-pregnancy this was making a HUGE improvement on the fine lines around my eyes. I’ll definitely pick that back up once baby girl arrives.

It’s all about finding what works for your skin type and what kind of routine you’re building for yourself. All the products I use are scent-free and for all or most skin types. I’ve never had a reaction to any of these products but it’s always important to test them first in case your skin is more sensitive. I hope some of my finds can work for others. Happy skin-caring!
